Dr. Patrick Ricotta
Dr. Patrick Ricotta grew up in a suburb of Buffalo, New York, and attended Saint Bonaventure University, where he earned his four-year premedical degree in biology. He was honored with the Marvin Shapiro Podiatric Surgery Award for outstanding performance in surgery at graduation from medical school.

His residency included extensive training in all aspects of both medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. During his residency, he completed rotations in several aspects of surgery, including vascular, plastic, and diabetic limb salvage.
During his residency, he was involved in numerous research projects, which resulted in publications in medical journals distributed nationwide, and Dr. Ricotta has lectured on numerous topics in foot and ankle surgery at many seminars all over the country.
Initially after residency, he practiced in Fayetteville for a short period of time until he relocated to Lumberton, where he has practiced since 1997.

Dr. Austin Paul Matthews
Dr. Austin Paul Matthews was born and raised in a small town in southeastern Idaho. Following a two-year church mission in Germany and Austria, he returned to Idaho to attend Brigham Young University-Idaho, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology. While attending BYU-Idaho, he also met his future wife, Pamela. Soon after Dr. Matthews finished his bachelor’s degree, he moved to Arizona to attend the Arizona School of Podiatric Medicine at Midwestern University. While in Arizona, Dr. Matthews chose to pursue a dual degree, and after four years of comprehensive medical education, he graduated with both his doctor of podiatric medicine degree and a master’s degree in education.
After obtaining his degrees in Arizona, Dr. Matthews and his family moved to southern Michigan for a three-year residency, which included training in all aspects of foot and ankle medicine and surgery. This training gave him the opportunity to learn from many expert physicians, including podiatrists, plastic surgeons, hospitalists and physiatrists. As a resident, Dr. Matthews conducted research on multiple topics, which led to the opportunity to present this research at national conferences. After finishing his residency, Dr. Matthews, his wife and three children decided to move away from the cold Michigan winters and relocate to North Carolina.
Dr. Matthews specializes in all aspects of foot and ankle care but has special interests in diabetic wound care and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. He will be seeing both pediatric and adult patients in both Laurinburg and Lumberton.
